American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy says that real footage from the 2016 presidential election will be featured in the upcoming seventh season of the FX anthology series. AHS has evolved quite a bit over the years, from its stellar debut with Murder House, followed by Asylum and Coven, to Freak Show, Hotel and most recently, Roanoke. Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, a close ally of President Biden, is now the Chair of the Senate Judiciary antitrust subcommittee. With a democrat as influential as Klobuchar at the helm, companies like Apple, Google, Facebook and more will be facing off against a powerful new adversary. Tonight, CNN’s Brian Fung reported that Klobuchar plans to hold “standalone hearings on app store policies” among other things. Klobuchar says that she has not reached out to any major tech executives yet to testify at these hearings, but Politico notes that she is “particularly interested” in the issues that surround Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store....

Following the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency announcing it would end its contract with RIM and purchase $2.1 million worth of iPhones, Bloomberg reported today that the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board will also make the switch. AAPL stock fell more than 12% at the market open yesterday, but the stock made up some of that ground today. AAPL ended today up 4.4%, and while analysts are still worried about the near-term effects of coronavirus, some see a year-end rebound. AAPL is down considerably from its 52-week high of $327.85. Market intelligence company TrendForce is predicting that Apple will sell around 227.5M iPhones this year, which would be 5.6% up on last year. This would represent growth above the overall smartphone market, which it expects to increase its sales by 4.8%. The company expects sales of the OLED model to be significant not just for Apple but for the smartphone sector as a whole … While Apple is rarely first to adopt a new technology, it does tend to be the one that drives widespread adoption of new features....

Analyst Dan Ives, from Wedbush Securities, who has an outperform rating on Apple’s stock, said today that he believes Apple’s “biggest strategic mistake” was not acquiring Netflix years ago. In an interview for Yahoo Finance, Dan Ives said that Apple would be in a better position in the current streaming wars if it had bought Netflix. Netflix has 203 million global users, while Disney+ hit 94.9 million subscribers more than a year after its launch last November....

With Apple’s upcoming fiscal Q3 earnings call just around the corner, analysts are predicting the company sold as many as 40 million iPhones during the quarter that ended last month. That’s on the high side of estimates complied by Fortune, however. Estimates from a poll of 26 analysts includes predictions ranging from 31.8 million to almost 40 million units. The average of estimates comes in at 35.88 million. If Apple does report iPhone sales for the quarter somewhere in the neighbourhood of the 35 million average, that would represent an almost 15% increase from last year....

At long last, the final Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Direct has come, and players are abuzz about the upcoming franchise entry to be the first-ever to add an island terraforming feature. As visual effects have continued to evolve, more and more genre films have used them to bring fantastical visions to life. But in some cases, the CGI can end up being a crutch.
