The latest TV spot for Ant-Man and The Wasp reveals Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne. Much has been made over the MCU entrance of the original Wasp, and rightfully so. In the comics, Janet is a founding member of the Avengers and even though her days of being a hero are likely behind her in the MCU, the introduction and rescue is highly anticipated. Janet being lost in the Quantum Realm was one of the biggest lingering mysteries from Ant-Man, but its a major part of the plot for the sequel. Making Janet’s true introduction even more exciting, Marvel got Michelle Pfeiffer to play her.

Despite all the interest in Janet’s role in Ant-Man and The Wasp, she’s largely been left out of the marketing. Posters have offered up the best look at Janet in the present day and teased the possible alterations she made to the suit over the last few decades. But, other trailers teased a glimpse at her life as a hero through flashbacks. It is in one of these scenes that Marvel’s marketing team finally decided to show Pfeiffer.

ComicBook shared a new TV spot for Ant-Man and The Wasp - featured at the top of this post - that reveals the first footage of Pfeiffer as Janet. It is brief and only at the beginning of the clip above, but it does show Pfeiffer as a younger Janet, presumably talking to a young Hope (both of which were in the recently revealed full cast list). Check out the footage above.

It should be noted at this point that this is not only the first footage of Janet that Marvel’s released, but also that it takes place in the past. All of Janet’s material is based prior to her going subatomic or while she’s actually in the Quantum Realm. This TV spot even offers a glimpse at Janet’s perspective as she traveled through the realm, so that will likely be expanded upon during the actual film. That said, considering how Marvel’s largely held Janet out of the marketing, it remains to be seen just how much screen time Pfeiffer will actually receive.

As the Ant-Man and The Wasp marketing campaign winds down, whether or not more footage of Janet surfaces is something to keep an eye on. They’ve slowly started to reveal a bit more about her role as the release gets closer, but there’s still plenty of secrecy surrounding the character. We know she’s being rescued and will be reunited with the family, but what happens after that and what state Janet is actually in remains in question. We’ve theorized she could be the villain, but that’s just a theory for the time being.
