Ant-Man & the Wasp may be updating Ghost for the MCU, but the villain will retain their classic superpowers from the comics. While the first Ant-Man followed the Marvel formula of giving the hero a dark doppelgänger, the sequel looks to be switching it up a bit. Ghost will fit within the sci-fi world of the Ant-Man franchise, but she’ll be unique in her power-set. She’s also much more mysterious than Yellowjacket was, as the marketing has hardly highlighted her and it’s been hinted her role may not be what many have assumed.

Audiences have already seen hilarious TV spots and action-packed looks at Ant-Man 2, but very little of Ghost. What’s been clear so far, however, is that she’ll look a lot like the comics. In fact, even the character’s appearances in animated shows like Iron Man: Armored Adventures were taken into account when crafting the MCU look for the villain. As for her powers, they’ll be the ones fans know and love.

During Screen Rant’s set visit to Ant-Man & the Wasp, the film’s executive producer Stephen Broussard revealed a little bit about what audiences can expect from Ghost - including her abilities.

In the comics, Ghost is a hacker trying to take down corporations. Though the villain’s alter-ego has never been revealed, Ghost has a strong rivalry with Iron Man. The switch to Ant-Man and the Wasp, however, works well as their size-changing powers will pair nicely with Ghost’s ability to phase through objects and become intangible. Audiences already saw some glimpses of this in action during the Ant-Man 2 trailer, and it’s clear the minds behind the film are having as much fun with Ghost’s powers as they do with Ant-Man and the Wasp.

“The power set is the same and the look is actually pretty classic, you know, not reinterpretation, but like modernization I think. Our visual design team…does a great job I think of sticking to the classic tropes that made these – what they looked like in the books. Actually going ‘Huh, that’s a pretty good realization of what that might look like in the real world’ and certainly that’s the case with Ghost. When you think of Ghost, you think of the hood. You think of the white suit and everything like that and Hannah wears it very well. She’s awesome. She’s really, really badass.”

Ghost can also become invisible thanks to the character’s suit, which again works into the name of the villain. That will be another power that’s sure to cause Ant-Man and the team a lot of trouble in the new movie. It will also help Ghost acquire whatever it is she’s after in the film. It’s not clear if the anti-corporate hacker M.O. will carry over into the film, but expect Marvel to put an interesting twist on the villain in Ant-Man & the Wasp.
