Scott Lang is wearing a different suit in Ant-Man & The Wasp, and it’s been scaled back from what he sported in Captain America: Civil War. The new Ant-Man costume (which was first seen August of last year) looks sleeker, with its chest piece lacking some of the extra details and its helmet, which was silver and red in Captain America: Civil War, back to its original black color.

As with all Marvel films (indeed, comic book movies in general), superhero suits tend to change each go-around. Tony Stark dons a brand new armor in almost every movie he appears in, while T’Challa’s Black Panther suit already had few iterations thanks to Shuri. So it only makes sense that the Ant-Man costume also goes through some significant modifications and even new versions considering Hank Pym’s involvement.

During Screen Rant’s visit to the set of Ant-Man & The Wasp, Rudd talked about Scott’s new suit and how his character is adjusting to wearing it. While he didn’t reveal anything significant about possible additional gizmos, he teases of some new capabilities that it can now do aside from shrinking and expanding his size that fans have yet to see.

It’s unclear if the Ant-Man suit has been taken away by Hank (or anyone else) following Scott’s arrest due to his involvement with Team Cap in Civil War. Rudd says that the armor he’s wearing in the forthcoming sequel is a brand new one, so that could mean that the original costume may be lying around somewhere unused. That makes sense, but also opens the chance for another wearer - either Hank Pym filling his former role or someone more nefarious.

How is the suit different to wear? Is it different? And how comfortable is Scott wearing it?

Paul Rudd: Well, it’s a different suit. I guess on every one of these they make modifications and you know, the suit can do some different things but it’s more I think it’s a little bit more streamlined. But going back, you know, in the first Ant-Man, there was an analog quality to it and then all of a sudden in Civil War it was a little bit more of a - it looked like a hood ornament. It was a little more chrome. And I think this has gone back to somewhere that’s kind of in the middle, dialing in both looks and it’s been updated.

As far as comfort, it’s just as comfortable as it’s ever been. I love it. I think it’s a really cool like, you know, I’m biased but I think it’s a really cool looking suit.

A TV spot featured Scott’s suit hilariously experience a glitch. Instead of shrinking down to a size of an ant, the costume stopped working midway, leaving him leaving him shrunken down to the size of a child. It makes for a funny bit, especially with Hank continuously mocking him while he’s in that state, but also raises questions of if the suit malfunctioning has something to do with it being new and not being fully tested yet.

The Wasp is also getting a brand new costume that’s different to the one revealed in Ant-Man’s mid-credits scene. Hope’s Ant-Man & the Wasp suit looks more modern, with a darker color palette and slimmer lines. Even her headgear looks updated with narrower eye slots and darker details.
