Scott Lang and his daughter Cassie are teaming up for a brand new Ant-Man comic book. It has been a big few days for the Marvel hero as it was only over the weekend when Ant-Man 3 was confirmed to move forward with director Peyton Reed. Shortly after, Michael Douglas revealed that he’s reprising his role as Hank Pym, and that Ant-Man 3 starts shooting in January 2021. As the shrinking hero’s journey continues on the big screen, he’s tipped to start a new one in Marvel’s comics, too.
While Paul Rudd’s live-action version of the microscopic hero has been visible through the MCU - playing a pivotal role in the defeat of Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, it’s been a while since he headlined his own comic book narrative. His last outing in print was the five-issue Ant-Man & The Wasp miniseries by Mark Waid and Javier Garron. Not to be confused with the film with the same name, the comic book run had Scott team up with the current Wasp Nadia Van Dyne for a mission in the microverse.
Now, everyone’s favorite shrinking hero is back to headline his own print adventure, and this time, he’s teaming up with his daughter Cassie Lang, known in superhero circles as ‘Stinger.’ The newly announced Ant-Man #1 will be written by Robot Chicken writer Zeb Wells with art from Dylan Burnett. The duo express their excitement over this new project (via official press release) and teased the upcoming adventure for the father-daughter team-up. Plot specifics for the project have yet to be divulged to the public, but the pair promises a narrative surrounding the father and daughter “uncover[ing] a global conspiracy that could topple the world order.” They also hinted special appearances from “many of your other favorite Marvel superheroes.” Check out the cover art for the run’s debut issue from Eduard Petrovich:
The full solicitation for Ant-Man #1 offers fans the synopsis for the upcoming comic book run, revealing that the narrative will kick off when Scott takes on a job as a local bee keeper in the hopes of raising his daughter’s opinion of him. There, he gets sucked into tricky circumstances that threatens the safety of the world. With time running out, Scott won’t be able to call the Avengers for back-up, leaving him and Stinger to take care of the problem themselves.
It doesn’t seem like there’s a link between the upcoming comic book project and Ant-Man’s future adventures on the big screen. But that doesn’t mean that some semblance of this new narrative won’t translate in movies one way or another moving forward. If anything, Marvel Studios can easily build towards the introduction of Stinger in their universe now that movie Cassie Lang is all grown-up. And of course, the Quantum Realm is expected to continue playing a big role in the hero’s film series.
Ant-Man #1 will arrive in comic book shops February 2020.
