The cast of Ant-Man and the Wasp continues to grow, with Sean Kleier joining the film. The sequel to 2015’s debut outing for the shrinking superhero is going to be the MCU’s first film after Avengers: Infinity War, so will naturally be of a fittingly smaller scale. Although that doesn’t mean it’s not being more ambitious than the original.
Indeed, the film has already vastly expanded its cast. As well as Michael Douglas, Michael Peña and Judy Greer returning to back up Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly’s titular heroes, there are high profile additions including Michelle Pfeiffer as the original Wasp, Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch, Laurence Fishburne as Goliath and Randall Park as Jimmy Woo. Although the film is already well into principal photography production, another key player has reportedly been added.
That Hashtag Show reports that Sean Kleier has been cast in Ant-Man and the Wasp in what they describe in a pivotal, currently-unnamed role. Character details are scarce but he’s said to be a special agent and “the ‘mole’ of the story”.
Klier has become a semi-prominent TV comedy actor in recent years, best known for starring in Odd Mom Out but also having recurring roles in Happyish and Mr. Right. This would seem to suggest in his first major blockbuster role (he’s had minor parts in just a few movies), he would be in a comedic part, although given how the Ant-Man side of the MCU tends to be lighter in tone than some other areas in general and that vague description, there may be something more.
Indeed, special agents are a recurring presence in rumors surrounding the film, with Jimmy Woo heralding the return of S.H.I.E.L.D. to the big screen and the synopsis teasing the likelihood of a similar heist adventure. The fact he’s called a “mole” could work either way - is he a secret villain or a good guy getting close to the movie’s actual big bad, presumably Hannah John-Kamen’s Ghost? THS theorize CIA Special Agent Geoffrey Ballard, who in the comics became villain Centurion, but that’s just speculation for now.
Of course, casting at this point (cameras started rolling at the start of this month) can often mean a minor role, although it all really depends on the shooting schedule. There’s been several lots of set photos emerge from the production, so we might get some more tangible clues soon.
