The latest addition to the MCU is more than ready to be in a superhero universe, as Ghost actor Hannah John-Kamen did most of her own stunts in Ant-Man and the Wasp. With Marvel already 2-0 for the year, all eyes are on Ant-Man 2. While it won’t stand a chance of topping Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, tracking for Ant-Man and the Wasp has it outperforming the original film. And from everything we’ve heard, it will also be packed with surprises for audiences.

Thanks to our Ant-Man and the Wasp set visit, we learned quite a bit about the upcoming film. But one area that remains a mystery is Ghost, the antagonist of the film. Even Marvel’s reluctance to call Hannah John-Kamen’s character a villain may be telling, and could hint that the original Wasp has broken bad and will be vexing our heroes upon leaving the Quantum Realm. Regardless of what role Ghost actually plays in the film, John-Kamen gave the performance her all.

During Screen Rant’s set visit to Ant-Man and the Wasp, we had the opportunity to speak with John-Kamen about playing an updated take on Ghost. And while she wasn’t privy to discuss much about the role, she did reveal some rather impressive information about her character’s stunt work.

Whatever role Ghost plays in the events of Ant-Man 2, she will be doing lots of action. We haven’t seen her much in the trailers and TV spots, but what we have witnessed is Ghost using her comic book powers in some very inventive ways. Like the size-changing fighting styles of Ant-Man and the Wasp, Ghost will channel her intangibility into some interesting moves. And though it’s safe to assume a stunt person carried out some of the work (as it’s incredibly rare for a performer to do 100 percent of there own stunts), John-Kamen doing a lot of the action should add to the performance.

I do my own, I love doing my own stunts, a hundred percent. I think it makes such a difference when you as an actor do your stunts. So, it’s been really fun having that experience and training cause there are certain things – if you just let your double do everything, you’re not there to help choreograph the movement of your character. And it’s so nice to have the freedom to be able to go, do you know what? Let’s find the movement of the character and see what actual kind of moves will work for that particular person. So, I’ve been doing mine, which is great.

It’s not just the idea of the villain doing their own stunts that will give the film a unique flavor, as Ant-Man 2 features Marvel’s biggest practical set. We heard that much of the movie’s effects were done in-camera and the set of Hank Pym’s lab was an impressive feat to behold in real life. All of that should help keep the fantastical story grounded and avoid some of Marvel’s recurring issues with CGI. So while VFX will naturally be needed to bring Ghost’s abilities to life, the authenticity of the stunts will only serve to increase the quality of Ant-Man and the Wasp.
