Netflix’s Another Life trailer sends Battlestar Galactica star Katee Sackhoff back to space. Journeying into uncharted and unknown interstellar destinations has long been a source of intrigue for sci-fi fans, particularly when extraterrestrial life is involved.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the release of Alien, and the degree to which the film continues to influence as well as engage with audiences proves just how fascinating (and terrifying) the possibility of alien life is for so many. Never one to miss a cue with regard to what audiences may want, Netflix has worked hard to get a number of original sci-fi series off the ground over the past few years. While the likes of Stranger Things has set the bar incredibly high for sci-fi stories that take place on Earth, Netflix has yet to really explore the more terrifying limits of outer space.

Now, ten years after her time as Lieutenant Kara “Starbuck” Thrace on Battlestar Galactica, it looks as though actress Katee Sackhoff is ready to join Netflix for a new journey into space. This time Sackhoff will be part of a crew of astronauts sent to search for the origins of a strange alien artifact in Another Life. The trailer has just arrived courtesy of Netflix’s YouTube channel, and can be seen below.

Fans of the Alien films will recognize a similar creeping, claustrophobic style to the program, and although the trailer doesn’t give much away, it does make clear that an alien threat is facing earth and Sackhoff’s crew is tasked with containing it. The plot follows this crew as they depart, determined to find the source of a strange object that’s been discovered on earth. As the journey into space deepens and the crew begins to find what they’re looking for, everything takes a terrifying and ultimately threatening turn. Judging by the intensity of the trailer, there’s no option of cohabitation and friendship with whatever alien species is responsible for the artifact that found its way to earth. The new series also stars Selma Blair, Jessica Camacho, and Justin Chatwin.

Though the trailer for Another Life does look enticing and more than a little creepy, it also comes off as the sort of story that would be better suited for a film than a TV series. Creating suspense and intrigue in a trailer is one thing, maintaining that sort of intensity for the duration of 10 episodes is quite another challenge altogether. This doesn’t mean that all ten of Another Life’s episodes can’t be riveting sci-fi/horror, but if that’s to be the case, then the series will have to provide much more than claustrophobic shots and jump scares to prove it.
