And unlike Slytherin which gets its bad reputation being perceived as the “evil” house, Hufflepuff often gets criticized for a whole other reason entirely. Hufflepuff students are just too darn nice. And since the story in Harry Potter is set in a world where fierce creatures and dark lords exist, I can see why fans favor the “cooler” houses. But these are also some common traits among Hufflepuff students: loyalty, patience, a strong sense of justice, and a propensity to hard work. Do those remind you of any anime characters? Well we’re taking a look into a bunch of characters that could likely be accepted into Hufflepuff.
10. Orihime Inoue
Anime: Bleach Here we have one of the most beautiful and kind-hearted waifus in all of anime. If you’ve been following Bleach as much as I have, it’s pretty obvious from the get-go that Orihime is more than worthy of being a Hufflepuff. She’s as soft-spoken as she is loyal to her friends — especially to Ichigo, whom she harbors a bit of a crush on that later develops into something else entirely. Most of all, she never backs away from any hard training – despite being the physically weakest among her group of friends. Which tells us a lot about her convictions. As expected from the best girl. No offense, Rukia fans!
9. Tanjiro Kamado
Anime: Demon Slayer When it comes to familial loyalty, you’ll see very few characters as dedicated as Tanjiro is to his sister — Nezuko. Sure enough, this loyalty isn’t reserved for only his sister. He’s also fiercely loyal to all the companions he met along his journey. As seen with his crusade against the evil (not always though) demons, he’s also a big fan of justice. He trains every day and risks his life for a noble cause. Moreover, he has personally handed out “judgment” on quite a lot of villains already. Not even the strongest of demons can break this one’s resolve – nor his desire to be by his sister’s side.
8. Subaru Natsuki
Anime: Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World Who else has enough patience and loyalty to his beloved that he’s willing to sacrifice his life so many times just to see her smile? Subaru might just be the weakest among the characters on this list. But he’s by no means any less admirable. Despite bearing the curse of immortality and dying over and over again, Subaru didn’t give up. No matter how many grim endings or unfortunate fates he’s suffered. And he’s also more than willing to put himself to work when it comes to either training or scheming – mostly to make up for his shortcomings. All for the sake of saving his otherworld friends and Emilia, the “best girl” in his eyes.
7. Raphtalia
Anime: The Rising of the Shield Hero This tanuki-waifu is one of the hardest-working and most loyal party members/love interests that any isekai MC could ever ask for. I mean, what can I say? Naofumi is a very lucky man. Raphtalia is also a kind-hearted soul who was there for Naofumi even at his lowest. Even when the entire world seemed to be against him, this girl stayed by his side. Since Naofumi only has his shield as a weapon, Raphtalia decided to become his sword. She trains and fights tirelessly to achieve this — even putting her life on the line just to keep him safe. These are the reasons why she’ll always be the best girl no matter how many new heroines get added to the series. In my book, at least.
6. Future Trunks
Anime: Dragon Ball Trunks often gets a mouthful from his dad about being “too soft” and “not very Saiyan-like”. But I personally chalk it up to Vegeta being the strict father he always is. After all, Trunks will always be a true warrior despite his soft-spoken and oddly calm nature. He’s loyal not only to his loved ones, but also to the entire population of Earth. More than anything, he wants justice for everyone that the androids in his timeline have killed. And to no one’s surprise, he eventually achieved this after biding his time and training so hard that he was finally able to defeat Android 17, 18, and even Cell. Now that’s dedication if I’ve ever seen it!
5. Hinata Hyuga
Anime: Naruto When it comes to characters in Naruto, Hinata Hyuga might just be the greatest example of a Hufflepuff. She’s reserved, yet kind. Of privileged birth, yet still very hardworking. Naïve, but always guided by a strong sense of right and wrong. These admirable traits are pretty obvious despite her limited screen time — especially during her actions during Konoha’s war against Pain. No one but her stepped up and helped Naruto in that very memorable scene. Even when she faced an enemy that outclassed her, her devotion to her village and to the man she loved never faltered.
4. Tony Tony Chopper
Anime: One Piece There’s just no way around it: Tony Tony Chopper is one of the weakest member of the Strawhat Pirates. But then again, he doesn’t have to be the strongest. I mean, isn’t he already the cutest among all of them? (Carrot’s a close second though) Chopper offers a cheerful, calm, kind, and helpful nature. Which is a perfect fit since he’s the medic of the crew. When it comes down to it, he could just leave the fighting to the Monster 3 and be the “healer of the party” essentially. And while his character isn’t exactly “cool” (just like Hufflepuff overall), Chopper’s role in the Strawhats is nonetheless very vital.
3. Gon Freecss
Anime: Hunter X Hunter Gon is one of the most pure-hearted protagonists in anime. Although after seeing his battle with Pitou, it has to be said that he also has his intense moments. To say that he’s hard-working would be a severe understatement. The amount of training he does on a daily basis alongside Killua is enough to break any ordinary hunter. And when it comes to his friends, he’s also loyal to a fault. So much so that it’s almost scary, as we’ve seen with how he reacted to hearing about Kite. All in all, Gon is the friend you want by your side. He’s always cheery, industrious, and extremely devoted. As an enemy though? Good luck…
2. Izuku Midoriya
Anime: My Hero Academia When it comes to young anime characters who really know how to work their butts off, Deku always comes to mind. He’s the classic “hardworking underdog” character who’s loyal to all his friends. In fact, he’s risked his career as a pro hero (and even his life) many times just to make sure the people dearest to him are safe. As Stain once alluded to before being captured, Izuku is one of the few heroes that embody the true meaning of the word “Hero”. He’s humble, selfless, and has a sense of morality and justice so strong that the greatest hero ever recognized his qualities – and chose him as the inheritor of One For All.
1. Mumen Rider
Anime: One Punch Man Remember what I said about Subaru being the weakest on this list? Well this guy might just give him a run for his money. After all, Subaru literally cannot die – while Mumen Rider is just a man with a pretty cool bike, now that I think about it. But outward strength isn’t exactly a Hufflepuff’s defining trait. Rather it’s their strength of character that shines through – even in a dark world full of terrors. And let’s be honest, very few fictional worlds are as “dark and full of terrors” as One Punch Man’s. Yes, that includes even the show where I got this reference from. Equipped only with his costume and his old trusty customized bicycle — Mumen Rider’s devotion to his hero job remains unbroken to this day. Despite his obvious weakness, he’s what you would call an ally of justice, who always does what he thinks is right – even if he gets mauled by monsters every other episode.
