Studio 695 provides consistent and carefully selected array of luxurious and rare art objects from high-profile european contemporary designers and talent. Designers you’ll currently find on their watch are Gufram, Matron Cycling, Christian Lacroix, Incréation, Bex Rox, Taschen & More. These designers are loved by many in the fashion world (i.e Paul Smith.)
A personal favorite collection was from Gufram, a furniture design company from Italy. The pieces are handmade and highly comical—Gufram focuses on pop art. Many of their furniture embodies the idea of an oxymoron: how small things are enlarged, heavy things are weightless, and hard things are softened. The experience is extremely immersive and are great for those with a vivid imagination.
Towards the back of the studio there is the Bocca seat which is a sofa shaped to look like a pair of luscious lips. The lips have a ring piercing make it feel as if they’d actually belonged to a giant (below.) A personal favorite is La Cova. La Cova is a human sized bird’s nest made from layers of colorful fabric. Inside the nest are two large pillow eggs. The eggs are also featured with the thornless cactus/coat hanger . The image of the thornless cactus with the two eggs is an iconic and a sticker set of the image can be retrieved when you ask Laura.
Another interesting seat is the Pratone, a small square of tall artificial grass made from polyurethane foam. Many people, when encountering the seat, have difficulty imagining how they are going to descend into it. The best way is to simply dive in because the design of the grass will suspend your fall as you wiggle your way into a comfortable seating position.
The studio features these larger and more playful pieces throughout the store. It may be small but there is much for your eyes to wander upon. After taking a tour around the place, one must stop by Laura’s desk. It carries several art books as well as stationary notebook that are worth flipping through for these items are far more affordable than the furniture.
