Brand new posters from San Diego Comic-Con 2018 have officially confirmed the Apocalypse title and theme for the upcoming American Horror Story season 8. Though plot details have yet to be revealed, the new season is said to be a crossover between the first and third seasons - Murder House and Coven.

From co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, American Horror Story is an anthology horror television series on FX of self-contained seasons that explore various elements of the horror genre, like haunted houses, witchcraft and voodoo, freak shows, and cults. With a repertory theater-style cast that includes actors like Sarah Paulson, Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Denis O’Hare, Angela Bassett, and Kathy Bates, American Horror Story explores dark social themes, classic horror tropes, and even real-life events. Now, the latest season - officially subtitled Apocalypse - will revisit storylines and characters from previous seasons, presumably circling around the end of the world, as well as the Antichrist, judging by the upcoming season’s two official posters.

The title and posters for American Horror Story: Apocalypse were revealed at SDCC 2018, and have since been featured on the show’s official Twitter and Instagram accounts. Both posters feature a newborn baby with sharp, Devil-like fingertips. It’s also coated in a red and glossy (almost bloody) sheen, with a larger charcoal-black hand with long, sharp fingernails keeping it entertained. The poster shares a similarly stylized aesthetic to previous season’s posters, and also reveals the show’s premiere date on FX of September 12.

The marketing material for American Horror Story often includes visuals and scenes that are never included in the actual show. They typically convey a general idea of what theme each season will cover, so it’s unclear how much of the visuals featured in these posters will carry over into the new season (i.e. a newborn baby with physical Satanic features, the demonic hand, the red aesthetic, etc.).

As of now, even though FX has not yet revealed an official synopsis, the title and posters - as well as the fact that Murphy confirmed ties to Murder House and Coven - imply that the baby in the poster is meant to represent the child of Vivien Harmon (played by Connie Britton) and Tate Langdon (played by Evan Peters). It’s revealed that their child, who is named Michael, is the Antichrist in Murder House and will eventually bring about the apocalypse. However, this storyline was never further explored. And given that this season is said to take place in the not-too-distant future, it’s likely that an older version of Michael will play a significant role.
