The American Horror Story season 10 cast is revealed, including Macaulay Culkin and the returning Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson. Premiering on FX in 2011, American Horror Story initially centered around a murder house. Ryan Murphy has turned his series into an anthology since then, with each installment bringing a new setting and a new set of characters. Political dysfunction has been the subject of American Horror Story, in addition to covens and frighting mental health institutions. Although the ideas vary, viewers have come to expect an episode of the show will blend campy humor and social commentary to tell uniquely scary narratives.
Another thing fans have come to anticipate is that Murphy and his collaborators have a reliable roster of actors they’ll call on to step into new personas from one season to the next. The anthology’s most recent offering, “1984”, has proven to be an exception. Paulson and Evan Peters, both of whom have appeared since the show’s beginnings, did not appear in a single episode of season 9. The season, which paid tribute to the slasher movies of the 1980s, received strong reviews. Still, the absence of Paulson and Peters was definitely noted by longtime devotees of the anthology.
Leading to the premiere of season 10, Ryan Murphy posted a video on his Instagram that revealed some of the big names who would be appearing. Macaulay Culkin will make his American Horror Story debut, alongside returning stars Paulson and Peters. Kathy Bates, Lily Rabe, Finn Wittrock, and Billie Lourd will also be a part of American Horror Story’s milestone. Check out the complete list of names that Murphy shared, along with a possible hint about the tone of season 10, below.
The beach imagery, along with the song “Dead of Night” by Orville Peck, seems strangely subdued for an anthology that is often over the top. The music video for “Dead of Night” also includes the sight of waves and sand, in addition to a masked man wearing a cowboy hat. It’s hard to say what this means for American Horror Story season 10, as the series has occasionally used vague advertising to fuel speculation, but it could suggest the episodes will focus on a beachside community. Big Little Lies was famous for its frequent use of similar imagery, though it’s a safe bet that Murphy’s version will include more death.
It’s also a safe bet there will be a larger cast than what was announced in the Instagram video, likely even a few surprise cameos. American Horror Story was recently renewed through season 13 at FX, which is a unique number for any television show. But for American Horror Story season 10, a rare accomplishment in its own right, Murphy has assembled a talented group of audience favorites and one very well-known newcomer to the franchise.
