After a long hiatus, the Starz television adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods finally sets a premiere date for season 2. The series has undergone some behind-the-scenes tumult, with series creators and season 1 co-showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green opting to depart the show due to creative differences and the series’ budget. Amidst the shakeup Gillian Anderson also announced she would not return to play Media in season 2.
But the series will live on, under the guidance of new showrunner, Jesse Alexander (Hannibal, Star Trek: Discovery), who has the task of picking up where season 1 left off, with Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) and Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane) on their way to the House on the Rock, as the latter attempts to gather a collection of Old Gods to wage war against their new counterparts. Given the casting and showrunning changes, this new season may end up redefining the series, something that may or may not sit well with the audience it already has.

Starz offered up an official release for the new season of American Gods that not only included a snappy new poster but also detailed what viewers can expect from the series when it returns. Check out the poster and synopsis below:
The long wait for season 2 undoubtedly brings with it certain expectations set by American Gods in season 1. Fuller’s distinct visual style and sometimes abstract form of storytelling has earned him plenty of loyal fans, and it will be interesting to see how Alexander’s approach to the series matches or differs from what came before. With any luck, Starz will deliver a teaser trailer before the year is out.

American Gods season 2 premieres March 10, 2019 on Starz. Starz will offer a special Holy Day Binge of American Gods season 1 on Saturday December 29.
