Sharon Osbourne left America’s Got Talent because of the network, not the show. The outspoken host decided to defend the side of the popular show as she looked back at her time with them.
The outspoken TV personality worked on the show from seasons 2 to 7, but left in July of 2012. Fans were told she left due to her son Jack Osbourne, but did not elaborate until she spoke with the New York Post, saying that her son was meant to work on a new reality show called Stars Earn Stripes, but was dropped from the show after he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The protective mother said he was being discriminated against and needed to support her son. Now, her perspective on the show comes after the controversial firing of actress, Gabrielle Union.
Osbourne is speaking out about her personal experience as a judge on America’s Got Talent, as reported by People. On The Talk, the 67-year-old said Union being fired is a hard pill to swallow, adding that she believes everyone’s experience on that show was different; she was a judge on the show for six years and was not let go. Osbourne went on to explain to the live audience that the show didn’t push her to leave, NBC did. Osbourne reportedly had her own issues with the network, but could not comment any further on Union’s situation.
While the TV host was a judge on America’s Got Talent, there was no person of color alongside at the judge’s table, so she could not comment on whether or not the show was as toxic in regard to race or gender as Union said it was. The mother of two went on to say that while she was on the show, it was a great place to work. Osbourne told her co-hosts that the crew and producers were really great to her, with the exception of the network. Sheryl Underwood, also a host on The Talk, defended Union, saying that she was proud that the actress stood up for herself in the workplace.
While all the ladies agreed that the issue of gender and race discrimination is something that needs to be talked about more, Union’s complaints have still yet to find any form of official resolution. NBC and the show stand by their decision to let Union go, and the issue is still ongoing.
